Friendlies. National Teams 2026/27: Algeria, FIFA windows and betting
An international friendly is a match between two national teams played outside any competition ⚽: it earns no group points and no place at a tournament. It still counts towards the FIFA ranking, only with the lowest weighting. FIFA sets the dates in its International Match Calendar, which covers 2023 to 2030, and the confederations and federations then decide what goes into each window, qualifiers or friendlies.
From 2026, late September and early October make up a single 16-day window instead of the two separate September and October windows used until 2025. In 2026/27 it runs from 21 September to 6 October 2026 and allows up to 4 matches per team. Three 9-day windows with a limit of 2 matches follow: 9 to 17 November 2026, 22 to 30 March 2027 and 7 to 15 June 2027. In Africa, the first two matchdays of 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying take up the autumn window between 24 September and 6 October, and the free dates go to friendlies. The tournament itself will be hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda from 19 June to 17 July 2027. Its qualifying stage brings together 48 teams in 12 groups of four: the top two in each group go through, except in the groups that include a host nation, where only the best of the other teams earns a place.
Algeria v Niger on 6 October in Tizi Ouzou
Algeria start the season under a new head coach. Brahim Hemdani was appointed by the FAF's Federal Bureau on 5 September 2026, succeeding Vladimir Petković, and his first window has three fixtures. The first two are competitive, in qualifying Group I for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations: Algeria host Zambia in Tizi Ouzou on Friday 25 September, then travel to Bujumbura to face Burundi on Tuesday 29 September.
The third is a friendly, announced by the FAF on 5 September: Algeria take on Niger on Tuesday 6 October 2026, again in Tizi Ouzou, to close the window. The opponent is Niger, not Nigeria. Because the game falls inside a FIFA window, it feeds into the world ranking.
The Greens' friendlies in 2026
Before the World Cup, Algeria played four friendlies: two in Italy in March, then one in the Netherlands and one in the United States in June:

At the 2026 World Cup, Algeria finished third in Group J on 4 points: a 3:0 defeat by Argentina on 16 June, a 2:1 win over Jordan on 22 June and a 3:3 draw with Austria on 27 June. They went through as one of the best third-placed sides and were knocked out in the round of 32, losing 2:0 to Switzerland in Vancouver on 2 July.
How much a friendly weighs in the FIFA ranking
FIFA's calculation gives every match an importance coefficient, and the higher it is, the more the result moves a team's ranking:

A friendly is therefore the lightest fixture on the scale, but not a meaningless one: played inside a window, it counts double compared with a friendly outside it.
Other friendlies this autumn
Brazil open the window with two games in Australia, in Townsville on 25 September and Brisbane on 29 September, then meet India in Kolkata on 3 October. Argentina play three home friendlies: Bolivia in Cordoba on 30 September, Burkina Faso in Buenos Aires on 3 October and Benin on 6 October. Egypt host South Africa in Cairo on 4 October. In November, Brazil play twice in Singapore, against Japan on 14 November and against the hosts on 17 November. European teams spend these windows in the Nations League, with matchdays from 24 September to 6 October and from 12 to 17 November.
